There are some perks to travelling with your partner, best friend, significant other (or all of the above). Because when you feel like waking up early and changing into a pretty dress before sneaking into the middle of town together to take photos whilst dancing in the main square – you totally can. #nooneslooking
Likewise, if you’re more of a night owl and want to take the long way home after dinner so you can get your partner, best friend, significant other (or all of the above) to sit on a ledge or stand in front of a derelict-chic wall and pose for the camera in an effort to capture the great lighting and detail – again, you can.
This is precisely what we did during some quiet moments in Merida in between Spanish classes, eating and sleeping. Enjoy :)

Favourite spot to take photos in Merida city? All the interesting walls in Merida, a cross between the beauty of old colonial times and run-down, derelict charm. Favourite spot would probably be one of the little cobblestone back streets with different coloured buildings, but a clean one (some of them can get pretty grimy, which Tobi will tell you is good for photographs but I’d rather not lean my dress on a wall covered in mould and splintered wood thank you very much Tobi! I’ll just stand near it without touching it…)
Favourite time of day to take photos in Merida city? In the morning when no one is around and the cobblestone streets are quiet and peaceful. Just don’t fall onto someone’s front door and wake them up like we did… woops! Ironically, the morning we headed out to take the maxidress photos was the same day as Merida’s weekend markets and – would you believe – a running marathon! Hence we ended up wandering into the back streets to avoid the crowds and found ourselves with some great pics.

The back streets. This was my first time in a colonial Spanish city and the back streets are amazing. So many small houses which while all in the same style, all have their own character through their different colours, doors and whether they were being maintained or not.

Early morning before the heat set in, plus we were already up so a good way to use the time!
