Current location: On a plane.
Current mood: Holiday mode, baby!
Current appetite: Moderately full from our McDonald’s breakfast run at the airport.
Today we officially said farewell to Sydney for the next 8.5 months. We couldn’t have asked for a better last day yesterday spent in the park basking in the sunshine with friends, tunes, flowers in jars and colourful rugs. Tobi even managed to squeeze in one last soccer game at the pub afterwards.
And how did the packing go? Let’s just say we’re glad it’s over and done with – approximate bedtime was 2:30am which is not bad considering some of our (Alice’s) past efforts! And for those of you who were wondering, no – Alice did not pack her hair straightener. Sad face.
After a teary goodbye at the airport this morning we are now soaring above the clouds en route to Tokyo, via Manila in the Philippines. Seeing as there is no in-flight entertainment on this flight we thought we could pass the time next with a quick update on our travel itinerary for those of you who were wondering. Here’s a little sneak peek video that we prepared before we left Sydney…
STOP 3: MEXICO to BELIZE (1.5 weeks)
STOP 8: PANAMA / SAN BLAS ISLANDS (1 week)

No in-flight entertainment on a 14-hour flight. What a drag. How would you have passed the time if you guys didn’t have a laptop? Card games, for sure. One deck of cards = hours of entertainment! Gin rummy would have to be my favourite. If cards weren’t an option, then perhaps some sort of word association game, personality quiz or crossword puzzle book. Brain training while travelling, why not!
Judging by your destination list, it seems you’ll be surrounded by water a lot of the time. Tell us, how have you prepared for 3.5 months of aquatic bliss? Given my luggage *restrictions* on this trip, I only packed 2 bikinis but am definitely hoping to add to my collection during our travels… maybe a colourful crochet bikini from Mexico or a tropical one-piece in Panama. Oh wait! I just remembered, I also snuck in a frilled floral one-piece swimsuit at the last minute.
Oh and I guess in terms of beachwear I also packed 4 kimonos, 1 sarong, 1 turkish towel, 2 kaftans, 1 linen playsuit and a new bottle of coconut-scented sunscreen. I didn’t have room for my giant floppy hat so will have to pick one up when we’re there. All in all I think I’m fairly prepared.
No in-flight entertainment on a 14-hour flight. What a drag. How would you have passed the time if you guys didn’t have a laptop? My 10 year old self can easily answer this question… Pokemon Red on gameboy. Kills 14 hours easy. But now we can drink, surely a drinking game of sorts would probably do the job. We can incorporate all the classics like Bung Eye-Spy and Gin Rummy (sans-cards edition). Fun for all the (18+) family… once we pass out we’d be there!
We could always join the Mile high club?
…or whatever Alice says, rainbow counting?
…sure.
Judging by your destination list, it seems you’ll be surrounded by water a lot of the time. Tell us, how have you prepared for 3.5 months of aquatic bliss? I packed boardies and attempted to diet. (Edit: oh yeah, Alice got me a Turkish towel. I packed that too.)
